Express Entry System
Expression of Interest

Express Entry System is a new electronic management system of the applications under the Federal Skilled Worker Class, Federal Skilled Trades Class, Canadian Experience Class as well as Provincial Nominee programs starting effective from January 1, 2015.

A foreign national who meets the requirements of Express Entry system, creates a personal profile and submits an expression of interest electronically. The profile of the candidate stays in the express entry pool for a period of one year.

The selection of an applicant in the express entry pool of candidates based on the total number of points assigned to the foreign national by the Comprehensive Ranking System. The applicants who have ranked highest points may receive an invitation from the Citizenship and Immigration Canada to apply immigration, which is valid for 60 days after the day of issuance of invitation by the Minister.

There are four factors affecting the total points of an applicant in the comprehensive ranking system:

  • Core human capital; age, level of education, official language proficiency, Canadian work experience
  • Accompanying spouse or common-law partner; level of education, official language proficiency and Canadian work experience of the spouse or Common law partner
  • Skill transferability; level of education, foreign work experience, certificate of qualification in a trade occupation
  • Factors relating to a provincial nomination or a qualifying offer of arranged employment.

Total number of points that may be assigned under the Comprehensive Ranking System is 1200 points, allocated as below:

For single applicants (who has no accompanying spouse or common-law partner):

  • a maximum of 500 points for the core human capital factors,
  • a maximum of 100 points for skill transferability factors, and
  • a maximum of 600 points for either a provincial nomination or a qualifying offer of arranged employment; and

For applicants who includes an accompanying spouse or common-law partner in his application:

  • a maximum of 460 points for the core human capital factors,
  • a maximum of 40 points for accompanying spouse or common-law partner factors,
  • a maximum of 100 points for skill transferability factors, and
  • a maximum of 600 points for either a provincial nomination or a qualifying offer of arranged employment.
